From the Winery

Iberian varietals. California terroir. Incredible wines.

Barreto Cellars is a Central Coast Winery dedicated to producing premium-quality wines featuring grape varietals from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). Having relatives who migrated to America from these regions, we have a strong connection and desire to develop wines utilizing these varietals, a number of which are grown in small amounts in select vineyards throughout California.

The Mediterranean climate and soil is very similar to much of California, providing us with the opportunity to create new varietal wines and blends unfamiliar to many wine drinkers. Currently we are creating wines in the New World style, while trying to capture the truly unique characteristics each variety possesses.

Tasting Notes

This blend is similar in flavors and structure to traditional Douro field blends. The wines in this blend have melded wonderfully over time and have created a complex and rich-tasting wine with great balance, producing a well- rounded wine that stands up on its own, or is the perfect compliment to a hearty steak dinner.

Strawberry jam with almond slivers on top. Add in some currants and cherries and a dab of tomato sauce. Light & smooth. Really interesting wine, I need to try it again without any other wines to influence it!

Lots of Flavor, Especially for the Price

What I really liked about this wine was how lush and smooooth it was, and full of flavor. It had what I'd call an even slippery texture to it. Lots of dark berry fruit, with soy sauce, meat juice, earth, chocolate and leather components on the palate with a long aftertaste. The aromas were nice, too, but the wine really sings on the palate. It's a good one!

Vinho Tinto is a winner. Big and bold from the deep purple color straight through to the nutty/pepper finish, this wine is one you'll enjoy if you are a CA style wine drinker. Cedar and cherry on the nose with a FULL bodied cherry and almond taste (my wife argues with me on those tastes but thats the great thing about a complex wine!). 5 stars because of the value (easily worth twice the price or more!) Love it! BTW - CA style with Iberian grapes...just great wine making here...
