From the Winery

Coral Mustang's mission is unique - producing only Tempranillo wines from select vineyards. This noble grape varietal from Spain produces world-class wine, suitable with a wide variety of food pairings. We are making single vineyard designated Tempranillo as barrel-aged and Rosé wines.

With the rising popularity of Tempranillo and the ever increasing plantings here in California, we search out the best vineyards and are dedicated to producing the highest quality wine that expresses those vineyards and locations.

Tasting Notes

Bright aromas of blueberry and cherry fruit are enhanced by Chinese five spice and soy. Leather, smoke, and vanilla round out the experience. The fruit aromas are carried through in the mouth. The perfect balance of acid to fruit along with the smooth structure maintains the varietal character of this wine. The taste lingers on the tongue with roasted nuts, vanilla, and blackberry.

Food Recommendations:
The perfect match with Paella, roasted or grilled lamb and beef, and hard cheeses like Manchego and Asiago.

True, there's no masking the wonderful aromas and flavors that others here have offered to describe this wine. With its robust food-friendly characteristics, its potential for aging 10 years or more, and its very reasonable price, I believe this is a Spanish-style red that's worth much more than its weight in satisfied dinner guests.

A wonderful nose of blueberries, raspberries, and black cherries with an enticing layer of spice that draws you in for more. On the palate the fruit gives way to nice acidity and a long dry finish. This wine would pair beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats.

I'm sure that, like me, you've read a wine's description and then, when it comes down to tasting it, you don't always get every aroma and flavor described. Or, you pick up on aromas and flavors that aren't listed at all. Not the case with this wine - Coral Mustang's description of their 2004 Tempranillo is dead on. Blueberries, cherries, blackberries - check. Leather and smoke - check, those too. Soy?! Check! (And I actually really liked the soy aroma, it was a first for me.) If that sounds like your kind of wine, you're going to like this. It's bright, medium-bodied and dry. Overall, a smooth experience and quite complex.

Blueberries aromas are very apparent, some spiciness too, and I can even smell the soy, strangely enough! The taste is dry, bold, fruity and not too tannic, with a spicy finish. Very well balanced! I would definitely enjoy this again.

This deep garnet-hued selection is truly a gem. I'm taken back to lazy spring afternoons on my grandfather's blueberry farm. The intense blueberry tones take on a welcomed position of dominance. They quickly step aside, however, to a subtly spicy finish.
