From the Winery

2006 was an exceptional vintage, especially for early ripening varietals like Sauvignon Blanc. The spring was warm and the summer mild. Winter rains waited until the last grapes were harvested.

Perfectly vine-ripened grapes were hand sorted and whole-cluster cold pressed. Multiple yeast fermentation started in a tank with the temperature slowly lowered to 45 degrees. The final stage of fermentation was in neutral oak barrels in our cool cave. Fermentation took five months, producing a generous amount of glycerin, which contributes to the viscous mouth feel.

Also, we'd like to introduce a new closure called the ZORK. The Zork is, in our opinion, the perfect closure for a wine intended to be enjoyed in its youth. There is no opportunity for cork taint or other contamination. It is made from surgical quality materials, seals completely and can be removed easily. Simply peel the band and pop the Zork! It reseals just as simply.

Tasting Notes

Our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc is bright and crisp, yet fuller and more generous than you might expect! With a smooth mouthfeel and an uncommonly long finish, this wine truly provides an unrivaled complexity and an exceptional depth.

My first sip was too warm - so after some time in freezer, I found tons of luscious tropical fruit topped by butterscotch candies. There was a tingle of Sav Blanc crispness, but all around this wine was not what I expected. There was a lingering creaminess that is reminiscant of Chardonnay, but with the tropical notes and refreshing zing of a sav blanc. Very interesting!

C: Straw N: Aromas of lemon custard and butterscotch, with more white tropical fruit and very slight underlying grassiness, but just barely P: Tropical fruit, understated acidity and medium mouthfeel label this as a California Sauv Blanc, but the butterscotch and lemon custard in the finish and underlying creaminess do not appear very often in this varietal. I do like this unusual SB, but it might not be what one would anticipate from this varietal. Please see my full review on WineLog.net: http://www.winelog.net/wines/wine/41861
