Redline 2005 Cedar Lane Pinot Noir
From the Winery
"Redline" is a term for maximum engine revolutions. Used in the context of auto racing & harkening back to winemaker Larry Roberts' racing photographer days - it also implies top performance, which Larry is dedicated to achieving with Redline Wines.
Balance, density, richness, structure, complexity - the Redline winemaking philosophy is centered around creating wines without excesses, always striving to showcase the character of the variety and the vineyard. Our goal is to craft wines not necessarily designed for instant gratification, but which will show well in their youth and continue to improve over time
Cedar Lane Vineyard is located in one of the most under-rated AVAs in California - Arroyo Seco. Maybe due to its location, just a couple miles south of the famous and highly-regarded Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, the Arroyo Seco has remained something of a hidden gem. Our 2005 Pinot Noir is a mix of 50% 115, 33% 667 and 17% 177 clones. The winemaking was straightforward and the aromatic qualities of the fruit were immediately obvious. The use of "2nd fill" Francois Freres Burgundy barrels allowed for the slow extraction of the fine vanilla qualities of this cooperage.
Tasting Notes
This is a Pinot that tastes like a Pinot, not a "quasi-Syrah!" Medium ruby in color, it shows aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, red cherry, oak vanilla and light mineral-white pepper notes. Rich and ripe, yet structured with good acidity, the palate is filled with spicy raspberry-cherry fruit, sublime mineral notes throughout, and finishes with a round, integrated oak fatness in the background. Deceptively full-bodied, it should reveal more layers with additional bottle age.
