Twisted Oak 2005 Silvaspoons Vineyard Verdelho
From the Winery
After its debut last year, we found that most people cut straight to the chase and called this Verdelho simply, "Bordello." While it is true that this sinfully delicious wine will make youwant to put on the red light... walk the streets for money... those days are over. You don't have to sell your body to the night. You don't have to wear that dress tonight!!
The Silvaspoons Vineyard is located Northeast of Galt in the newly recognized Alta Mesa district of the Lodi AVA. This Portuguese white grape is an early ripener with great natural acidity very reminiscent of a Sauvignon Blanc. The berries are light greenish to golden in color but the skins are quite thin, yielding a white grape juice that is almost pale straw in color.
Tasting Notes
"Mandrake? You listening? Purity of Essence. That's what this Verdelho has. You'll never catch a Commie drinking this Verdelho. Why, Mandrake? Because it's full of exotic aromas of bananas, citrus, lilac. And, it is bursting with crisp, fresh fruit flavors of apricots and honeydew melon. Mandrake, this is the purest expression of fruit from a vineyard as you will ever taste. Drink it now, like a man!"
Food Pairings: By itself! As an apertif. Or with most seafood, clam chowder, oysters and other aphrodisiacs...and creamed SPAM on toast!

The nose of the Verdelho was very aromatic. It started out with a strong sense of pineapple giving away to apple. Flowers then dominated the nose. In the mouth there were pears, apples and peaches. The wine had excellent acidity and structure.
I served it with parmesean breadcrumb baked tilapia and leftover risotto. Some kind of vegetable too, though my memory is foggy...The light flower and crisp fruit flavors in the wine paired well with the light flaky fish and the acidity did well up against the creamy cheese risotto.
Overall, we loved this wine. The flavors and aromas were great for the summery weather we've been experiencing here and the value was excellent.
