From the Winery

Just sip one glass and you'll hear a tale. A tale of a tasteful trip. That started with this Viognier, aboard this winery ship. The mate was a mighty winemaker, the assistant brave and sure. The Twisted Few set sail that day for a winemaking tour, a winemaking tour. The weather started getting rough, the vineyard almost lost. If not for the courage of the cellar crew the flavors would be lost, the flavors would be lost. Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah something something something isle, with coconuts, papayas too. Taste butterscotch, apricots. A touch of oak, the finish and Mary Ann, in this Twisted Oak Wine.

Tasting Notes

"It's like going into a department store, and before your can say 'Stop!' some perky thing in a floral print blasts you with the latest from Yves St. Ralph!" Not this Viognier! Sure, you will detect a hint of jasmine, but peach and grapefruit take center stage upstairs in the Aroma Dept. Meanwhile, in the Flavor Dept. (1st floor, just past Lingerie), you'll taste those peaches and grapefruits along with a touch of clove spice and a touch of oak. Perfect for your holiday, or everyday, shopping experience!

Food Pairings: Give it the bird! Chicken, turkey, quail. Pad Thai, shrimp enchiladas, fettucini Alfredo, with or without SPAM!

I served this with turkey soup, homemade by me! The wine was an okay match for the soup, but I think it made a better after dinner wine, though I bet it would be great as an appetizer wine, or just sipping on its own.

On the nose I found aromas of pear, honey, apricot, and, oddly enough, caramel. I also noted something a bit spicy, but I couldn't quite place it. In the mouth, flavors of citrus, especially white grapefruit and lemon dominated, with notes of apricot and caramel/toffee/some kind of sweet candy.

The wine was sweet at the front of the palate but had great acidity and a bit of spice later on to keep the sweetness in check. This was a bigger white, and a touch creamy overall. The wine was really golden in color. Great wine, definitely something I'd get again.

We paired this wine with grilled chicken and were satisfied. We noticed tropical aromas and apricot on the nose, and those same flavors in the mouth. It had a bit of honey to it, similar to a moscato without being nearly as sweet. I noticed a hint of banana on the finish. I would have rated this wine higher except I felt it was a little hot at 14.5% alcohol and it detracted from the overall experience.

For a viognier, this is BIG!

For a viognier, this is extremely full-bodied and rich. Initially this surprised us, but after the second sip we were hooked. Peach is the primary fruit flavor, but not overwhemlingly so. This is a very good wine paired with appetizers... cheese, veges and hummus. A pleasant surprise - and something different for the warm summer months.

For a white, this seems to me delightfully well bodied. This is the first time I've had Viognier, and I really enjoy the complexity of flavors. A new tinge of fruit every second, ending in a bitter and nicely spicy, warm honey taste. One of a few whites I would buy again.

Full bodied and spicy, with a long aftertaste. Smells good, but it seems like it should be more aromatic, to match the strong flavors. I would definitely drink this one again.

Bright crisp aromas and medium bodied. Pear essence, with a subdued after taste that lingers just long enough, kind of like an experienced call girl. I would pick this one up again, like an experienced call girl.

This is the second time I've tried Viognier, and if you're looking for something a little different, maybe even exotic, this might be right up your alley. It's medium bodied, with a great honeyed texture. Lots of peaches, with a touch of melon and spice. Twisted's Viognier is not too tart and has just the right hint of sweetness. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the slight bitter aftertaste - not sure if this is a characteristic of Viognier or if it was the Queso I had been eating before tasting this, but I'd more than willing to try it again to find out.

Gentle sweetness & peaches

My first Viognier ever... It's got a gentle sweetness with lots of peaches. If you like drier wines, I would definitely give this a try -- especially if you've never tried a Viognier. Also, be sure to catch the hilarious Gilligan's Island spoof on the back of the bottle!
